Yeovil Without Parish Council Supports Octagon Theatre Project
Yeovil Without Parish Council is pleased to confirm its recent decision to support the Octagon Theatre project, following a recent letter to parish councils from Yeovil Town Council.
The Council RESOLVED to pledge £70,000 towards the project, subject to the following conditions:
- The £70,000 contribution will be directed specifically towards the building fit-out phase of the development.
- Payment will only be made once the project has commenced and reached an advanced stage, to be confirmed in due course.
- The contribution is made under the powers conferred by the Local Government Act 1972, Section 145 – Provision of Entertainments.
The Council’s contribution will be made from funds received through Yeovil Without Parish Council’s 11% shared ownership of the Crematorium, ensuring that this support can be provided without any additional cost to local residents.
Yeovil Without Parish Council recognises the significant community, cultural, and economic benefits that the Octagon Theatre redevelopment will bring to Yeovil and the wider area, including enhanced arts and entertainment facilities, increased local engagement opportunities, and a boost to the local economy.
By supporting this project, the Council reaffirms its commitment to investing in initiatives that enhance community wellbeing, access to culture, and local pride.
